2009 was without doubt the year of Mat Zo as the talented young producer wowed us time and time again with his distinctive productions blending elements of trance, progressive and tech. With that in mind, it is perhaps appropriate that ’24 Hours’ kicks things off on Anjunabeats in 2010. A brooding progressive work driven by punchy beats and rolling basslines, its twisted yet touching melody knits things together nicely and makes this another essential bit of listening from one of Anjuna’s hottest prospects.

Remix duties are assigned to Olie Smith, who turns out a trancey and hypnotic mix underpinned by buzzing grooves. Fingers crossed there’s more to come over the next twelve months!

Tribute to Melody Gough 1983 - 2009

On December 24th 2009 art curator and singer Melody Gough, who featured on Jaytech's album "Everything is OK", was involved in a car accident and rushed to hospital with head injuries. It’s our sad duty to report that she passed away on 31/12/2009. Melody was a talented musician and a much loved friend to many and our thoughts go out to her family and friends in this difficult time. Charitable donations in memory of Melody are being collected for Careflight, the medical helicopter service that took Melody to hospital. It’s about time that Nitrous Oxide and Adam Nickey put their collective thinking caps on and collaborated on a record, and for all of us hoping to see it happen ‘Moon Dust’ finally makes it a reality. Above & Beyond, recently ranked 4th in DJ Mag's list of the world's top DJs, have announced gigs in both LA and San Francisco on New Year's Eve.

First up is a headline appearance at Giant Village's annual event at The Westin Bonaventure Hotel & Suites hotel in downtown LA. Above & Beyond will spearhead a line up that also features Cosmic Gate, Christopher Lawrence, Crystal Method and Kristina Sky, with more acts TBC.

After seeing in the New Year in Los Angeles, Above & Beyond will fly over to San Francisco to peform the closing set at an Anjunabeats themed party at 1015, where they will be supported by labelmates Super8 & Tab, as well as local favourite Taj.

Stuart Langelaan is one of the UK's most consistent trance producers having turned out a string of top drawer original productions and remixes for the best part of the last decade and 'Wanderlust' sees him on Anjunabeats for the first time under his resurrected Firewall guise. Previously showcased on Anjunabeats Volume 7, the Original Mix is a bristling cyber trancer powered by buzzing synths, punchy beats and rumbling basslines with some catchy melodic hooks thrown in for good measure.

Taking charge for both remixes is Sunny Lax. The first is more akin to his newly discovered, almost progressive sound, whilst the second harks back to Levente's style of old; delightful cascading electronics, trancey breakdowns and a warm persona take it away from the bleaker soundscapes of the original and bring the package to an uplifting conclusion.

Fancy yourself as a rising superstar DJ? Now is your chance to shine as Anjunabeats offers six budding DJs the chance to win a DJ set in the Baby Box at Ministry of Sound (London) for our forthcoming event at The Gallery on 12th Feb. The competition is open to members of the Anjunabeats forum only and the forum itself will vote for who they want to see DJ on the night. To take part all you need to do is send us a SoundCloud link to your 30 minute mix along with your real name, forum alias and no more than 50 words on why the forum should vote for you to win a set. The deadline for submitting your mix to us is the 24th December!

Once we have received all the entries we will post a special poll on our forum with details of all the potential DJs and links to their mixes. Anjunabeats HQ will be selecting 2 of the winning DJs and then the forum will have a week to cast its votes and choose the other 4 DJs who will each get a set on the night. Good luck to the DJs and stay tuned to cast your vote!

Terms & Conditions: All participants must be 18 or over, you will be asked for proof of ID. You must be a genuine member of the Anjunabeats forum. Your demo mix must be no more that 30 minutes and must be submitted to us via a link to SoundCloud. You must be available to DJ on the 12th February 2010 anytime between 10.30pm - 04:30am. Your mix can be any genre you desire. Guest list plus one will be provided to the winning DJs. The competition is open to forum members globally however we will not be paying for any accommodation, flights or any expenses so please bare this in mind when entering!
